In the article, It starts off my saying that teenagers can not live without their devices and no one is telling them to give them up. The internet can be used in many ways some better than others. It explains how teenagers can be unaware of what is possible to happen like someone may try to take advantage of you, steal your personal information, or harass or threaten you. These types of things are called cyber bullying. Teenagers often think that they know what they are doing but can sometimes lose sight of the capabilities of others. This article explains how now with the introduction of anonymous messaging sights more and more teens are being manipulated by adults who pretend to be teens or kids. These frauds will then most likely ask the child to send photos or personal information, and the children are too innocent to realize what they are getting themselves into.
The article then talks about ways to be smart online. It then stats that the first rule is to check your mood before going online. People, especially teenagers moods affect their decisions they make even in a negative way that can lead to regret. The second rule is to try to remain anonymous as possible. When online you should never give away personal information such as your full name, photographs, location, phone numbers...etc. Companies will never ask you to give them that type of information so when teens are asked such things a red flag must appear in their brain. Another important thing is your screen name. Teenagers often don't realize that when they are making screen names that they are giving information out unintentionally like their gender, age...etc. For people unaware un what cyber bulling is the article explains it. Cyber bullying can not only be done by people you don't know but also by people you do know. People can message and post hurtful things either direct or anonymously. When coming into contact with cyber bulling the article explains how the best thing to do about it is ignore it. Answering it can just make the situation worse. They inform teenagers that if ignoring the bully does not work to contact someone you trust like your parents or teacher. The article then moves on to talk about other things to consider like hacker spams. How to handle those types of spams are to delete the message without opening it to avoid any chance of getting a virus. Also when out in public do not let anyone you don't know use your phone because you don't know what they can do with it as your back is turned. Another thing is to always keep in the back of your head that once you hit send there's no turning back, its out there forever. Link to original article |
